Configuring the daemon

Create ~/.config/bookmark-context/config.toml. Everything is optional; see the Configuration reference for the full table.

Change the port

port = 8080

Also update the extension’s host permission and the URL it calls, and any MCP client config that assumed 7331.

Change the embedder model

model = "BAAI/bge-base-en-v1.5"

A larger model improves retrieval at the cost of index time and disk. You must re-index every bookmark after changing this — existing vectors came from the old model and can’t be compared against new query embeddings.

Any model fastembed supports works. If a policy in your organization bars Chinese-origin or US-Entity-List models (BAAI was listed in March 2025), use a non-BAAI option such as sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2 or intfloat/e5-small-v2.
